A proposal for new signage displaying the recognisable Greggs branding has been submitted to Oxford City Council for a unit at Tyndale House on Cowley Road.

It would be installed in a currently vacant unit next to the Sainsbury’s Local, opposite the permanently closed Brewdog pub on the corner of Princes Street.

The new cafe bakery would take up half of the existing vacant unit, which used to be Superdrug, according to the proposed plans

It would join two other Greggs bakeries which already serve south Oxford, with one in Templars Square shopping centre and another in Littlemore shopping centre – but the newest addition would be far closer to the city centre.

The successful bakery chain also operates three other shops in the city, one in Oxford Railway Station, one on Cornmarket Street, and one in London Road, Headington.

Part of the application for the new store sets out the requirement for ‘plant’ equipment, including air conditioning units, ventilation grilles and vents.

The agent submitting the plans on behalf of Greggs Plc said this equipment would be located ‘discreetly’ and wouldn’t have any adverse impacts in terms of ‘noise, odour or amenity’.

The new opening hours for the proposed bakery would be Monday to Sunday, 6am to 8pm, if the plans are approved.

The application is open for consultation until May 13, with a decision from the council due by the end of the month.
