Oxford gymnasts to walk 640km to fund new equipment

Summit Gymnastics Club, based in Oxfordshire, has launched a sponsored walk, with gymnasts, parents, and supporters aiming to collectively walk 640km.

The walk will take place on Sunday, July 26, along the Ridgeway, one of the UK’s most iconic walking routes.

A spokesman for the club said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our gymnasts, parents and families to come together outside the gym, challenge themselves and support the club at the same time.

“The more people who get involved, the more achievable the challenge becomes for everyone.”

The 640km distance represents the journey from Oxford to Glasgow, host city of the Commonwealth Games, and will be completed as a team effort.

Funds raised will go towards purchasing new vaulting equipment, estimated to cost around £1,600, to help gymnasts safely develop their skills.

Summit Gymnastics Club offers training and development for gymnasts across Oxfordshire, and hopes the sponsored walk will not only raise funds but also strengthen its sense of community.

The club said the event is about more than just fundraising; it’s a chance to promote teamwork, wellbeing, and club spirit.
