Oxford gastroenterologist joins editorial board of journal
Professor James East, Gastroenterologist and Medical Director for Welbeck, Oxford, has been appointed to the International Editorial Board of Gastroenterology, the flagship journal of the American Gastroenterological Association.
Professor East said: “It is an honour to be invited to join the International Editorial Board of Gastroenterology, the flagship journal of the AGA Institute and one of the highest impact journals in our field.
“Many of the leading figures in gastroenterology whom I have long admired, are among those serving on the board, so it is a real privilege to join them.
“I look forward to contributing to the journal, supporting the highest standards of peer review and helping to advance gastrointestinal science.”
The role comes as Professor East prepares to lead digestive health services at Welbeck Health Partners’ forthcoming Oxford centre, which is due to open at the end of 2026 following a £30 million investment.
The centre will be one of the UK’s most advanced outpatient diagnostic and specialist healthcare facilities.
Professor East is also known for his dedication to early detection and prevention of bowel cancer.
He said: “It is an exciting time for digestive health, with rapid advances in artificial intelligence, endoscopy technology and potential cancer vaccines transforming how we diagnose, treat and prevent gastrointestinal disease.
“I am honoured to play a part in supporting the publication of research that will ultimately improve patient care around the world.”
