Oxford clinician and researcher new director of DPUK

Professor Vanessa Raymont, director of research and development at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, will now also serve as director of Dementias Platform UK (DPUK).

DPUK is one of the UK’s leading dementia research organisations.

Professor Raymont said: “These are exciting times for dementia research.

“With advances in biomarkers, diagnostics and emerging treatments, we have a real opportunity to transform the way we detect and manage dementia.

“I am looking forward to working with colleagues across DPUK and beyond to help drive that progress.”

A clinician, researcher and former associate director at DPUK, Professor Raymont has played a key role in advancing dementia research across the UK.

She leads the organisation’s Trials Delivery Framework and co-leads the READ-OUT study, a major national initiative exploring the use of blood biomarkers to improve the diagnosis of dementia and cognitive impairment.

Her appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the field, with increasing opportunities to improve diagnosis and accelerate access to new treatments.

She succeeds Professor John Gallacher, who led DPUK for more than a decade.

Throughout her career, Professor Raymont has combined clinical expertise with a commitment to advancing research that improves understanding, diagnosis and care for people affected by dementia.

At Oxford Health, she has been instrumental in developing and supporting a wide range of dementia studies, helping to strengthen the trust’s contribution to national and international research efforts.

Her appointment reflects the growing influence of Oxford-led dementia research on the national stage.
