Mac Kitten coffee shop opened as a cafe serving lunch, hot drinks, and bakery items with cats inside the eatery in February 2024.

The cafe was in Cowley Road near the Plain Roundabout.

Customers were able to sit down for a coffee or refreshments and interact with the kittens housed on-site.

Sweet treats accompanied Eastern European specialities such as Turkish coffee, a Russian layered cake Medovik, and Turkish Kumru, a sandwich.

The cafe replaced Boss Chic hairdressers.

The cafe revealed that Cookie, a black kitten from Swindon, was welcomed onsite a few months after opening to the delight of its customers and owners.

At the time a spokesperson for the cafe said: “He was a bit scared at first, but when the children came he relaxed. He loves attention and loves the place. He has adapted very fast.”

Cat cafes have gained popularity in the UK and across the globe following a craze which began in Taiwan.

The owners said they had to leave the site due to their child’s urgent school change that has meant the family needs to relocate.

The owners are hoping a new business will take on the unit as quickly as possible.
