Oxfam Superstore Oxford Cowley gives shop a Pride makeover

The Oxfam Superstore in Cowley, has given the store a Pride-themed display.

The display was designed with support from Oxfam GB’s visual merchandising manager, David Humphrey, who has created similar displays for Oxfam stores across the UK.

Mr Humphrey said: “This Pride month, and beyond, we’re showing solidarity with LGBTQIA+ people because we believe that happiness, safety, and a life free from poverty is everyone’s right.

“Our shops are at the heart of local communities and provide an opportunity for connection and belonging.

“Up and down the country, our teams are working on wonderful window displays and installations to show our support for Pride.

“I hope customers enjoy these joyous and euphoric displays, that show solidarity with LGBTQIA+ communities in Pride month and beyond.”

The Pride-themed display highlights books, music, and other products by LGBTQIA+ authors or with related themes.

Oxfam believes that a fair and just world includes everyone, and that discrimination based on sexuality—along with race, sex, or gender—fuels inequality and poverty.

Oxfam says that many people in the LGBTQIA+ community are facing an increasing threat of violence and discrimination.

ILGA Europe’s Rainbow Map shows the UK is no longer ranked among the top 20 most LGBTQIA+ friendly countries in Europe.

Just ten years ago, it held the top spot.

Oxfam says this decline has left many people at greater risk of violence and discrimination simply for being themselves.
