Open Day success at Housing 21’s Fern Meadows Extra Care scheme in Faringdon

Housing 21 has celebrated the launch of its newest Extra Care scheme, Fern Meadows, with an open day that welcomed members of the Faringdon community on Wednesday 17 September.

Visitors were given the opportunity to explore the £15.5 million all-electric, low-carbon development, which offers 60 one- and two-bedroom apartments designed to support independent living for people over 55.

Fern Meadows is Housing 21’s fifth Extra Care scheme in Oxfordshire, combining stylish apartments with a wide range of communal facilities, including a residents’ lounge, activity room, café/bistro, hair salon and landscaped gardens. The scheme also offers on-site care and support to help residents live independently with reassurance when needed.

Darren Herbet, Deputy Head of Extra Care South at Housing 21, said:

“Fern Meadows is a fantastic example of how Extra Care can empower older people to live independently, with the reassurance of support when needed. We’re proud to bring this much-needed scheme to Faringdon and to see such enthusiasm from the local community.”

The open day also marked the completion of the construction phase, delivered by Midlands-based Deeley Construction. Steve Turner, Construction Director, commented:

“The community day was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the completion of our fourth development in partnership with Housing 21. We’re proud to have delivered an all-electric, low-carbon scheme which will provide sustainable, high-quality homes for local people.”

Oxfordshire County Council praised the scheme as a strong example of the Oxfordshire Way, creating modern, flexible and person-centred housing options. A spokesperson noted:

“The open day gave us a chance to celebrate thoughtfully designed homes and welcoming community spaces that will support residents to flourish.”
