Thanks to National Lottery Players, One Planet Abingdon has appointed a new coordinator who will focus on expanding and supporting volunteer opportunities with the volunteer programme.

Carol Dunne, who brings experience working with volunteers of all ages, has joined the team on a 12-month contract.

Ms Dunne said: “One Planet Abingdon is an amazing space where our community can come together and make a real difference to our environment.

“Volunteering is known to aid well-being, and it gives opportunities to meet others, give back to your community, as well as share skills or learn new ones.”

She also thanked town councillors for their backing.

She said: “We are grateful to Abingdon Town Council for their invaluable support in helping us secure this funding.

“I look forward to hearing from new volunteers as well as working with our current One Planet Abingdon team.”

One Planet Abingdon offers a variety of volunteer roles, from helping in the centre’s community café to running upcycling and mending sessions, plant-based cooking classes, creative workshops and youth programmes.

Volunteers can also get involved with the centre’s Repair Cafés, delivered in partnership with Abingdon Carbon Cutters.

Currently, the centre is getting ready for its ‘Wear it Out’ sustainable fashion show, taking place in June.

Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to visit the café, located beneath Abingdon Museum, to meet the team and chat about opportunities.

Alternatively, people can contact carol.opacec@gmail.com for more information.
