Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service were called on Thursday morning, March 26 to the home in Eynsham.

After assessing the situation and attempting to resolve the issue safely, the crew used specialist equipment to “carefully” carry him downstairs, ensuring he was brought to safety without injury.

A fire service spokesman said: “This incident is a reminder that our firefighters respond to far more than fires.

“From rescues in the home to road traffic collisions and medical emergencies, crews are trained and ready to deal with a wide range of situations.

“It’s not just fires – we are here to protect our communities, reduce harm and save lives.”

Eynsham Fire Station had responded to the incident in under five minutes.

The station is one of three that is under threat of being shut down by Oxfordshire County Council, along with Henley and Woodstock.

The county council says it’s to make the service more efficient, but opposition have said cutting the fire service is a dangerous move that could cost lives.

No decision has been made yet and the Lib Dem cabinet are going to make a decision in the spring based on recommendations from officers and the consultation that ended earlier this year.
