NHS urges eligible patients to book spring Covid jab

The update comes as the NHS continues to encourage those who remain eligible to book their jab before the scheme ends on June 30.

Eligibility is focused on those at higher risk of serious illness, including people aged 75 and over, care home residents, and those aged six months and older with a weakened immune system.

Caroline Reid, director of commissioning at NHS South East, said: “It is great to see that more than 600,000 people across the South East have already come forward for their spring COVID-19 vaccination, showing how many people are taking up this important protection.

“For older people, care home residents and those with weakened immune systems, this extra dose offers valuable protection and can help reduce the risk of serious illness and hospitalisation.

“If you are eligible and have not yet booked, there is still time to come forward and get protected before the offer ends on 30 June.”

Covid-19 continues to pose a risk of severe illness, especially to those most vulnerable.

The spring booster is designed to increase immunity at a time when protection from prior doses or infection may have lessened.

Appointments can be booked through the NHS App, the NHS website, or by calling 119.

Walk-in sites are also available.

This year’s campaign began on April 13, making the South East the second-highest region in England for total vaccinations so far.
