New kid’s adventure section opens in Oxford leisure centre

The colourful space at Leys Pool and Leisure Centre aims to encourage children and families to get moving and explore active travel in a fun and engaging way.

Unveiled March 7, the play corridor transforms a standard walkway into a playful, interactive route filled with colourful ground markings and activity prompts designed to make walking more appealing.

Adam Godwin, Active Communities Manager for Leisure Solutions Community Trust (LSCT), said: “This reflects a shared commitment to improving opportunities for physical activity and wellbeing in the local community.

“We’re proud to support initiatives that help people be active in ways that fit easily into daily routines.

“The Play Corridor is a fantastic example of how communities can be encouraged to move more through creative and welcoming spaces.”

The project was developed collaboratively by Oxford City Council, LSCT, Active Oxfordshire, and centre users.

Ellie, Healthy Active Neighbourhoods Manager at Active Oxfordshire, said: “We’re really proud of this project because it hasn’t just been designed for the community – it’s been designed with them.

“It’s now a colourful, vibrant space, and it’s fantastic to see it already bringing people together.”

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to mark the opening.

Chewe Munkonge, Oxford City Council cabinet member for a healthy, fairer Oxford, said: “The arrival of the new Play Corridor is a colourful addition to Leys Pool and Leisure Centre.

“This initiative is a fantastic example of making physical activity both accessible and fun.”
