Museum evacuated and Oxford University closed amid incident
A power cut has hit the city today (Friday, August 14), causing issues for residents amid electricity shortages.
This has now affected several city centre spots, including several Oxford University libraries, which have now been shut for the rest of the day.
A statement published by Bodleian Libraries on the social media site Facebook said: “Due to a power outage in central Oxford, the Old Bodleian Library, Weston Library and Radcliffe Camera are closed for the rest of the day (Friday, August 14).
“They are expected to be open as usual on Saturday (August 15).”
The Asmolean Museum on Beaumont Street was also affected as the Oxford University-owned popular tourist spot was evacuated earlier today.
One local said in the Facebook comments: “Do you happen to know if the Ashmolean is affected too?
“My partner was evacuated earlier and still has a bag in their lockers.”
