More than 8,500 packs of cigarettes seized from Cowley

Officers from East Oxford and Cowley Neighbourhood Team discovered the haul alongside a significant sum of cash.

One male was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods offences, and the investigation is ongoing in collaboration with Trading Standards.

The team has vowed to crack down on the sale of illegal goods, cautioning, “If you are selling illegal goods, we will find out.”

Meanwhile, the same team has secured two full closure orders for Cowley properties plagued by persistent antisocial behaviour and crime.

These orders, among the most effective tools for dealing with problematic properties, exclude even the residents from entering.

The action was taken following community reports and growing concerns about activities at these addresses.

The neighbourhood team emphasised that continued antisocial behaviour significantly impacts nearby residents and pledged to use all available powers to tackle it.

A police spokesman said: “Our message is clear: antisocial behaviour and criminal activity that affects our communities will not simply be ignored.

“We will continue to listen to local residents, work with our partner agencies, and take positive action where appropriate to keep Oxford safe.”

Residents experiencing antisocial behaviour or possessing information that could aid investigations are urged to report it via 101 or through the police website.
