Maize maze and sunflower field to open at Bicester farm

Simms Farm in Kirtlington Road, Bicester, has announced the return of its popular summer and autumn activities from this Friday, July 31.

The farm, led by Emma Deeley Cook, will reopen its maize maze and sunflower field for visitors, with its opening day timings as 10am to 4pm.

A statement from the organisers said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming you – even though the sunflowers and maize are shorter this year, the field will – we hope by then! – be full of colour . . . and the cake slices are still full sized.

The farm waited until after the harvest and for the first sunflower blooms to begin to show, despite the long period of dry weather, before it announced the reopening day.

Now its in third year, the event first began in 2023 with two sunflower fields at the front of the farm made accessible to visitors.

Although blooms can be ‘unpredictable’ and the event’s season is largely decided by the weather, the attraction has proved hugely popular.

Entry is £4 for adults, £3 for under 16s and free for ages five and under, and sunflower are on sale for £1 per stem or five stems for £3.

Homemade cakes, cookies, tea, coffee and soft drinks are available, parking is free and dogs on leads are welcome, according to the farm.
