London Symphony Chorus to perform at Oxford Arts Festival
The concert will feature a programme of celebrated works including Handel’s Zadok the Priest, Carl Orff’s O Fortuna from Carmina Burana, and excerpts from Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem.
Founded in 1966 to complement the work of the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Chorus will perform under the direction of chorus director Mariana Rosas.
The evening will also see the festival’s artistic director Michelle Castelletti share the podium.
In addition to choral classics, the concert will feature works by Fauré, Stanford, Whitacre, Ginastera, Bruckner and Parry.
Ms Castelletti said: “They have enjoyed coming up with a programme of glorious works, including immortal pieces such as Handel’s Zadok the Priest; Carl Orff’s explosive first movement from ‘Carmina Burana’, O Fortuna; excerpts from Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem (German Requiem) and Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius; and gorgeous works including Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine, Stanford’s Beati Quorum Via, Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque, Ginastera’s O vos omnes from the ‘Lamentations of Jeremiah’, Bruckner’s Os Iusti, Parry’s I was glad; as well as (of course!), the chance for the audience to join in, in prom-like fashion!”
The concert is taking place on June 24, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the Oxford Town Hall.
