Leicester City confirm ‘serious’ injury before Oxford United clash

Foxes manager Russell Martin revealed that the shot-stopper sustained a serious injury ahead of the Oxford game.

The Polish keeper was substituted after just six minutes during Leicester’s 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night.

The injury is a big blow to the Foxes who will be without their first-choice goalkeeper for the entire campaign, veteran Alex McCarthy replacing him in-between the sticks.

Stolarczyk was benched for the first two games of the season but was reinstated as no.1 in the third against MK Dons.

Meanwhile, midfielder Conor Chaplin and centre back Caleb Okoli will also miss out against Aaron Ramsey’s Yellows.

Foxes boss Martin expressed his sadness for his goalkeeper to the Leicester Mercury: “Not good.

“I feel so disappointed for the big guy. He’ll be out for the season. It was a really innocuous one on his knee.

“The only silver lining is that him and Ben [Nelson] will get to do their rehab together, they’re in very similar situations.”

Nelson, who played 17 games on loan at Oxford in the 2024/25 season, was also ruled for the majority of the season back in August and subsequently will not feature against his former club on Saturday.
