James, the Earl of Wessex, achieved the necessary grades to pursue a degree in rural land and property management.

The 18-year-old will join many others who received their A-level results, with the total number of entries surpassing 900,000 for the first time.

His specific grades and the subjects he studied at Radley College in Oxfordshire have not been made public.

The course at the university in Cirencester covers subjects including planning and development, law, valuation, building construction and management.

It also focuses on sustainability and business management, preparing students to advise on rural businesses.

James’s sister, Lady Louise Windsor, graduated from the University of St Andrews earlier this summer with a degree in English and international relations.

She will take a gap year before starting her career, while James will begin his studies this autumn.

James’s parents, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, spent part of the day when his exam results were announced in Birmingham.

They were attending the European Athletics Championship and were hosted by Dame Denise Lewis, president of UK Athletics.

James’s new venture into university life comes at a time when the population of 18-year-olds has increased, contributing to the record number of A-level entries.
