Jeremy Clarkson takes aim at Ed Miliband over Cotswolds pub

The 65-year-old purchased the watering hole in Asthall near Burford for around £1,000,000 a couple of years ago when it was still known as The Windmill.

Having performed major renovations, the pub opened its doors to the public in August 2024, renamed The Farmer’s Dog.

The pub, which serves Mr Clarkson’s alcohol brand Hawkstone on tap, featured in the most recent series of Clarkson’s Farm, which was released last year.

Now, the former Top Gear host has taken aim at MP Ed Miliband over a new Government-backed energy tool that is advising pubs to serve slightly warmer pints and switch off bottle fridges overnight in a bid to rein in soaring energy costs.

The guidance, championed by the Energy Secretary, comes against a backdrop of surging oil markets, with the conflict in the Middle East helping push crude prices towards 100 dollars a barrel, up sharply from around 70 dollars before recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

Online advice from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero urges hospitality venues to crack down on avoidable electricity use by keeping a closer eye on power-hungry kit such as extraction fans, ovens and lighting.

Mr Clarkson was asked for his opinion on the scheme as one social media user on X said: “Will you be following mad Ed’s advice of serving warmer beer?”

The former Grand Tour star replied: “The man isn’t sensible.”
