Beloved for his iconic role as Sergeant Robbie Lewis in the original Inspector Morse television series, the actor is well known to Oxford audiences.

He later reprised the part in the ITV spin-off series Lewis, named after his iconic character.

The 75-year-old surprised the cast of the Inspector Morse: House of Ghosts live show by attending a performance last night (Thursday, March 20).
