Held at the Westgate Centre on May 28, the event drew an enthusiastic crowd.

The showcase, organised by Oxford’s two NIHR Biomedical Research Centres (BRC), aimed to inform the public about healthcare research conducted in the city.

This research focuses on improving the diagnosis, treatment, and care for various conditions, including Alzheimer’s, asthma, depression, and diabetes.

The showcase featured stands that highlighted the BRCs’ work in areas such as young people’s mental health, heart disease, infection, sleep problems, and genetic diseases.

Taking place during the half-term holidays, the event saw many children engaging in hands-on activities to learn about the science behind the research.

The event also encouraged people to get involved in research, whether by participating in trials or helping to design and evaluate studies.

The NIHR BRC: Oxford is a partnership between the University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

On the other hand, the NIHR BRC: Oxford Health is a partnership between the University and Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Together, they conduct research across 26 different healthcare themes.

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is the UK’s largest funder of health and care research.
