Heythrop Zoo announces closure after nearly 50 years
Heythrop Zoological Gardens or Heythrop Zoo in Chipping Norton, which trades as Amazing Animals, has announced it will shut down at the end of March.
The custom-built zoo filming location was founded in 1977 and is now one of the UK’s largest trainers and suppliers of ‘exotic’ animals to the film and TV industry.

As well as being prized professional working animals, the zoo’s residents have proved a hit with visitors on open days and on road trips to local schools, care homes and other centres.

A statement from Heythrop Zoological Gardens said: “Sadly, the time has come to announce the closure of Heythrop Zoological Gardens at the end of March.
“This decision has not been taken lightly, and we would like to thank everyone for your kindness, generosity and support.
“We are so pleased that we were able to welcome you in to take part in the animal encounters, zoo visits, open days, parties and the young zoo adventures.

“Meanwhile, on the road, who could forget the lovely residents and staff of the numerous care homes, hospices and hospitals that we have had the privilege of visiting. Our animal carers were always moved by the happiness these interactions created.
