Harry Potter star’s £2.2m house in price drop as home unsold

The film star, who was born in and grew up in Oxford, is known globally for playing Professor Sprout in several of the Harry Potter movies adapted from JK Rowling’s book series.

The 85-year-old also won a BAFTA for her role as Mrs Mingott in Martin Scorsese’s 1993 film, The Age of Innocence.

Earlier this year, Ms Margolyes listed her Australian bushland retreat for sale in the Southern Highlands.

The asking price was set at $4.2 million in Australian currency, which converts to around £2.2 million.

With the property still unsold as of now in July, the asking price has been lowered to $3.65 million, which is around £1.9 million.

The sprawling 62.5-hectare estate is being marketed through Sotheby’s following reports that the actress plans to move to Italy with her long-term partner, Heather Sutherland.

Tucked away near the village of Robertson, less than two hours’ drive south of Sydney, the architect-designed home sits high among eucalyptus forest.

Offering far-reaching views that extend all the way to the Pacific Ocean, the property was bought for $262,500 by the actress in 1996, according to realestate.com.au .

The three-bedroom residence was designed as a tranquil escape, featuring a dramatic double-height living area filled with natural light, vaulted ceilings, and Blackbutt timber floors.

There are also multiple expansive decks that open the home to its surroundings, giving it that natural hideaway feel.

Ms Margolyes has spent decades splitting her time between London and Australia, and in recent years has rented out the property, known as Yarrawa Hill, as a holiday stay on Airbnb.
