Golfers raise £8,100 for charity at Kirtlington Golf Club

A charity golf day, in support of The Hummingbird Centre, took place last month at Kirtlington Golf Club and raised a total of £8,100.

Twenty-two teams, made up of 88 players, took part in the 18-hole Stableford tournament, which included longest drive and nearest-the-pin challenges.

Paul Harris, organiser of the event and a trustee of The Hummingbird Centre, said: “It was great to see so many golfers come together, not only to enjoy a day on the course but also to make a real difference to the charity.

“The atmosphere throughout the day was fantastic.

“We’d like to thank all the players, sponsors, volunteers and supporters who helped make the event such a success.”

The golf day was the first to be held since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gary Quainton, golf and pro shop manager at Kirtlington Golf Club, said: “We were delighted to support such a fantastic event.

“The generosity shown by everyone involved was incredible, and to raise more than £8,000 for such a worthwhile cause is a tremendous achievement.”

The Hummingbird Centre opened its doors in 2014 after founder Mechelle Harris made a promise to her late father, Raymond Hurcombe, to create something positive from their family’s loss.

Since then, the centre has supported thousands of people and has become an important part of the community.

It relies entirely on donations and volunteers to operate, with every penny raised going back into the centre.
