Funeral fundraiser for Oxford teenage who died in river

The teenage boy, named locally as Baltazar L’Quy, got into difficulty close to Donnington Bridge on Wednesday evening (May 27) before he was pronounced dead.

The teenager is the 11th person to die in water-related incidents during the recent heatwave across the country.

Baltazar, of Timorese descent in south east Asia, was named by the Oxford Timorese Community Association.

His family has been made aware and are being looked after, police say.

A Go Fund Me fundraiser has now been set-up to raise money for the family who is “struggling to come to terms with it”.

More than £770 has been raised so far, which will go towards funeral costs and supporting the family.

A statement on the fundraising page said: “Any support will help ease the financial burden during this painful time and allow us to focus on honouring his memory.”

The Oxford Timorese Community Association, with the family’s authorisation, asks all Timorese in the UK to help.

It said: “Thank you for the love you shared, the lessons you taught, and the beautiful moments you gave us.”

The Government Children’s Funeral Fund for England can also help to pay some of the costs of a funeral for a child under 18, including burial fees, cremation fees, and a coffin, shroud or casket of up to £300.
