Several flowers have been placed at the River Thames entrance to Longbridges Nature Park, close to Donnington Bridge where teenage boy Baltazar L’Quy died on Wednesday, May 27.

Baltazar, of Timorese descent in south east Asia, was named by the Oxford Timorese Community Association a day later and is the 11th person to die in water-related incidents during the recent heatwave across the country.

His family has been made aware and are being looked after, police say.

Among the flowers, were a set from St Hilda’s College Boat Club, one of a number Oxford University colleges competing in a competition known as ‘bumps’.

The first day of the rowing event was cancelled amid the major police scene at Donnington Bridge, which is on the rowing route, but was going again on Friday, May 29, with crowds watching the spectacle.

Meanwhile a Go Fund Me fundraiser has now been set-up to raise money for the family who is “struggling to come to terms” with the death of Balthazar.

A statement on the fundraising page said: “Any support will help ease the financial burden during this painful time and allow us to focus on honouring his memory.”
