Just before this episode of Britain’s Got Talent filmed last year Mr Cowell had hurt himself, falling down some steps and hitting his head.

The Manchester Evening News reported that after postponing one day of the Birmingham auditions, Stacey Solomon was drafted in.

She was a judge for much of the episode with KSI, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden who took over as head judge.

However, to the relief of some, Mr Cowell returned before the end of this fourth episode of the 19th series.

During the show, Ms Holden would use her golden buzzer for The Hawkstone Farmers Choir, who first came together for a performance at Jeremy Clarkson’s pub The Farmer’s Dog.

Fans were divided about Ms Solomon’s appearance with some asking why she had been picked while others were enthusiastic for her return

One fan said they preferred her to the “dismal Simon”.

Another user said: “Imagine being told you have no talent by Stacey Solomon.”
