Famous Oxford high street pen shop up for £170,000 sale
Pens Plus at 69-70 High Street Oxford has been trading since the late 1960s with the current owners – Paul Major and wife Kay – having taken it over in October 2019.
On its website, its description stated: “Our intention has been to maintain and build upon the range of fine writing instruments and stationery products as well as the various other services offered.”

Now, the leasehold property has been put up for a £170,000 sale on Rightmove.
Its accounts for the period ending May 31, 2025, showed sales of £480,643 with its business rates set to increase from £23,500 (April 2023) to £32,750 (April 2026).

Marketed by Christie Owen & Davies Limited, according to its listing its clientele includes the city’s academic, professional, visitor and international pen-enthusiast communities.
South Americans have visited the shop, and it has a consistent customer base from US academics.

The listing states: “This well‑established and highly respected business has been under the same ownership for six years, continuing a legacy that has seen it remain an iconic presence on Oxford’s High Street for over 60 years.

It has a 4.7-star rating based on over 250 Google reviews, with its interior L-shaped over around 861 square feet.
The interior was further enhanced in 2025 with a new Montblanc refit.
