The two former McLaren racing drivers will be at the city’s New Theatre on Saturday, September 19 for An Evening with Racing Icons.

Hosted by Channel 4 F1 presenter Steve Jones, the retired racing drivers will discuss their time at the top of motorsport, their rivalry and their enduring friendship since.

Scot Mr Coulthard, known as DC, spent 15 seasons in Formula 1 – winning his first Grand Prix in 1995 and driving for McLaren and Red Bull racing.

He won 13 Grand Prix and is a double winner at the British and Monaco Grand Prix.

Finland’s Mika Häkkinen, meanwhile, is known as the flying Finn and the only driver that seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher ever admitted to fearing.

He will recount his journey which includes driving alongside the late Ayrton Senna at McLaren, surviving a life-threatening crash at the 1995 Adelaide Grand Prix and executing his iconic 190mph overtake at the 2000 Belgian Grand Prix, once voted by fans as the greatest overtake in motorsport history.

He will also reflect on his path to winning back-to-back drivers’ championship titles in 1998 and 1999.

A spokesman for the New Theatre said: “Don’t miss this unique chance to see these racing F1 legends as you’ve never seen them before.”

Tickets are available via the New Theatre website.
