Ex-Oxford United hero Andy Whing resigns as Brackley Town manager

The club announced on Thursday evening that Whing had stepped down from his role as first team manager.

The former Yellow took over at the struggling Northamptonshire club in February and was unable to steer the side away from relegation from the National League.

After a tricky start to the 2026/27 season, Brackley sit third bottom in the six tier division on eight points and in 21st after eight games.

In a statement on their website, the club said: “This season Andy has brought together a young squad with a lot of potential.

“Throughout his tenure, Andy has represented Brackley Town Football Club with professionalism and integrity.

“The Board would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Andy for his efforts during his time at the club and we are genuinely grateful for the work he has put in with the players and staff.

“The Board fully respects Andy’s decision and we wish him the very best for the future.

“A unity and a togetherness have always been strengths at our club.

“We urge all supporters to come together and to get behind the team on Saturday and in these coming weeks.

“The club will provide an update in due course ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie.”

Whing played for Oxford for four years from 2011 to 2015, becoming a cult hero before going on to coach the Under-18 side.

The 41-year-old previously managed Banbury United, guiding them to the National League for the first time in their history.
