Didcot: 75 primary youngsters enjoy rounders tournament

The Year 5 pupils from Willowcroft, Stephen Freeman, Hagbourne, Harwell and Blewbury took part in the competition at Aureus School in Didcot.

The event was organised by Year 10 sports studies students as part of their GCSE coursework.

Rob Hayden, head of PE at Aureus School, said: “The Year 10 students led one team each, and they delivered planned warm-up games, stretches, and skills to prepare the primary students for the Rounders Tournament, where they played for the Year 5 Rounders Tournament Trophy.”

The primary school teams competed for the Year 5 Rounders Tournament Trophy, with Stephen Freeman Team One, led by Shaequan Smith, emerging as the overall winners.

Mr Hayden said the event offered valuable learning opportunities for everyone involved.

He said: “Events like this are hugely valuable.

“They help students develop their teamwork and communication skills, confidence and resilience, physical fitness and coordination, and a sense of belonging and school pride.

“They also give pupils the chance to experience friendly competition in a supportive environment, which is an important part of their personal development.

“The Year 10 students also develop their leadership skills and confidence, ready for them to continue with sport in the future or their job roles.”

This marks the fifth time Aureus School has hosted the tournament.

The school is part of the GLF Schools multi-academy trust.
