Cinnamons in Wheatley was investigated by South Oxfordshire District Council after neighbours complained about cooking smells.

Following the legal dispute, Cinnamons announced in the summer of 2025 it would have to close.

After that, a wine bar announced its intentions to take over the empty High Street building.

Meanwhile, Cinnamons director Jahidul Hoque has formally remove the registered company Cinnamons Cuisine Limited from Companies House.

A ‘final gazette dissolved via voluntary strike off’ notice has been issued and means that following the closure of the restaurant, the company legally ceases to exist.

All remaining assets transfer to the Crown, and the company cannot trade further.

Cinnamons had been serving diners for more than 20 years but it could be forced to close as a result of the row.

Following the complaints about cooking smells, a ventilation system costing £35,000 was installed.

But investigators took the business to court over failing to action recommendations and environmental abatement notices.

After being ordered to pay £25,000 by Oxford Magistrates’ Court, the restaurant shut down.

This included an £11,000 fine, an award of full costs of £12,000 to South Oxfordshire District Council, alongside a victim surcharge of £2,000.

Subsequently, as well as pleading guilty to the charges of statutory nuisance laid against them, Cinnamons admitted that they could have done more to mitigate the odour.
