Council to repaint car park despite plans to build on it

Woodford Way Car Park in Witney has been at the heart of a debate over controversial plans to build 55 social rent homes on the town centre car park, reducing its public parking capacity from 250 to 84 spaces.

West Oxfordshire District Council said the car park will be closed for two days this week for improvements, as part of a program to make the free, council-owned car parks across the district ‘safer and easier to use’.

Woodford Way car park will be closed for two days from Tuesday, August 25 for line repainting.

A spokesperson for the council said: “During the closure, drivers can use Marriotts Walk car park, just across the road.

“It has more than 600 spaces, and long-stay parking will be permitted on levels four to eight for these two days.

“There are more than 800 spaces in other car parks around Witney.

“Please plan ahead and use another nearby car park while the work takes place.”

The council added that line repainting has already been completed at the car park in Charlbury, and similar improvements at Black Bourton car park in Carterton and Albion Street car park in Chipping Norton are set to follow in the coming months.
