Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper return to Doctor Who
The Manchester-born actor brought the iconic Time Lord back to television screens in 2005 with a hugely popular revival series.
Starring alongside Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler, the duo became two of the UK’s most famous faces, battling aliens and monsters throughout time and space each week.
His Swindon-born co-star shocked audiences last year as she appeared to be the new incumbent Doctor following Ncuti Gatwa’s regeneration.

With the future of the show uncertain, the BBC previously announced that there would be a Christmas special this year, which many assume will star Ms Piper.
Now, the official Doctor Who social media accounts have revealed that both Ms Piper and Mr Eccleston will be returning for a new escapade, which will release in June.
This latest adventure will not, however, be live-action TV but rather a Big Finish audiobook entitled Doctor Who: Thirteen O’clock.
Posting a trailer for the new story on Instagram, the official caption read: “Is it always this quiet?

“Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper return in Doctor Who: Thirteen O’Clock, a new audio adventure coming in June 2026.”
Last Month, Mr Eccleston was in Oxford for the 2026 Literary Festival, speaking at the Sheldonian Theatre alongside fellow actor Paterson Joseph.
The 62-year-old also had an exclusive chat with this newspaper at the event, speaking about his writing, the dangers of gambling, music, and Doctor Who.
Reacting to Ms Piper taking on the role of the Doctor following last year’s regeneration, Mr Eccleston was supportive and told us: “Give it to Billie. Yeah, why not? Why not.”
