Child sent to Oxford hospital after A40 crash by McDonald’s

The youngster, who is approximately three years old, was taken to the John Radcliffe with a woman whose condition was also serious, but not life-threatening.

Ambulance crews were called to the A40 just before midday today (Tuesday, April 14) following reports of a crash between two pedestrians and a van.

This was by the McDonald’s restaurant at the major junction in Headington were the A40, North Way and the Eastern By Pass Road intersect.

Reports indicated two lanes were blocked and traffic was severely disrupted for several hours.

A spokesperson for the South Central Ambulance Service said: “We received a 999 call just before midday with the caller reporting that there had been a collision between two pedestrians and a van on London Road, Headington, near the McDonald’s restaurant.

“We sent two ambulances and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance critical care response vehicle to the incident.

“The pedestrians were an adult female and an approximately three-year-old child.

“They had sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and following initial treatment at the scene both were then taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.”

According to AA there was queueing traffic for at least a mile and the westbound route on the A40 was blocked for 40 minutes until 12.40pm.

Thames Valley Police refused to comment on the incident.
