Child hit by car and man arrested in ‘harrowing’ Oxfordshire incident

The collision occurred at around 6.25pm yesterday (Friday, June 12), near The Health Centre on Mably Way in Grove.

A black Ford Fiesta was involved as a pedestrian, who Thames Valley Police say was a “young child”, was at the traffic light pedestrian crossing.

The victim sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital at this current time (Friday, June 13).

A 37-year-old man from Wantage has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drink/drugs and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries. 

Thames Valley Police is now appealing for witnesses following the serious road traffic collision in Grove.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Edward Crofts of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Any collision involving a young person is particularly harrowing, but I would like to thank those who came to the aid of the victim and their family at the time of the collision.

“This included medical staff working nearby and members of the public who stopped to assist.

“We are carrying out a thorough investigation into the circumstances of this collision, with a man being arrested at the scene on Mably Way shortly after police arrived, in attendance with paramedics from SCAS.

“I would particularly like to hear from anyone who witnessed the Black Ford Fiesta at the time of the collision or leading up to the collision from Didcot along the A417 and westbound towards Denchworth Road along Mably Way. 

“If you saw this vehicle prior to the collision, have dash-cam footage on Mably Road or Denchworth Road, or if you have CCTV or doorcam footage, please come forward.”
