Elsewhere, the rural crime team’s police constables Carney-Smith and Kamalee attended a report of a possible arson near Lambourn, just south of the border in West Berkshire.

An investigation concluded that it was likely a wildfire, the police said.

A spokesman said: “Tackling fires is extremely difficult in this heat so please be extra careful especially near fields and woodland.”
