Businesses report ‘abuse and threats’ in Oxfordshire town

In a statement, Thames Valley Police said they responded to complaints of street drinkers causing issues on Bridge Street in Banbury yesterday (Friday, August 28).

A spokesperson said: “Business staff reported being subjected to nuisance behaviour, abuse, and threats. Let’s be clear… this behaviour is completely unacceptable.

“Our local businesses and their staff deserve to work in a safe environment.

“No one should have to tolerate intimidation, abuse, or threatening behaviour whilst simply doing their job.”

After attending the area, officers reviewed CCTV footage amid other enquiries and identified the woman involved.

The spokesperson added: “Officers attended her home address and dealt with her by way of a Community Resolution, banning her from the store.”

In addition, the force issued a Community Protection Warning (CPW), making it clear that any further anti-social behaviour could result in escalated enforcement and further police action.

They added: “The Banbury Neighbourhood Team will continue to work closely with businesses, partner agencies and the community to tackle anti-social behaviour and keep our town centre a welcoming place for everyone.”

“Every report,” the spokesperson said, “helps us build the bigger picture and take action against those causing harm to our communities”.
