Burst pipe continues to spray water despite UK hosepipe ban
Thames Water announced on Tuesday (July 21) that a temporary ban would start at 12.01am today (Thursday, July 23).
This was due to an exceptionally dry spring, three official heatwaves, record‑breaking temperatures and prolonged high demand.
Then, just hours before the action was set to come into place, a major water pipe burst in Banbury yesterday morning (Wednesday, July 22).

Locals shared photographs and concerns online, with a large water spray pictured coming from the ground on Dukes Meadow Drive.
Banbury residents also added that this had been the case for hours with no sign of this changing anytime soon.
The issue is still persisting today (Thursday, July 22) and Thames Water has issued a statement in response to the problem.
A spokesperson for the company said: “We are working on this and we have a permit to complete the fix by tomorrow, all being well.”
