Burford – major search for missing woman, 66, in Cotswolds

Caroline Heininger was last seen and pictured by CCTV on the A40 opposite Burford Lodge at around 5.27am on Wednesday, August 5.

The 66-year-old from Shilton Road in Burford was walking westwards, detectives have said.

Meanwhile, her family has issued a small statement urging anybody with information of their loved one’s whereabouts to come forward.

They said: “Caroline is loved dearly by her husband, children, dog (Archie) and her many friends. We are all willing her safe return home.

“We would like to express their deepest gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the search efforts so far and would encourage anyone who has information to come forward.”

CCTV images released of Ms Heininger dressed in light clothing and shorts.

A police spokesman said: “We hope that someone may recognise her, remember seeing her, or have information that could help our enquiries.

“We continue to ask residents in Burford and the surrounding areas, as well as any motorists who travelled through this area at around 5.30am, to check any CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or other footage they may have.

“Even the smallest detail could prove vital to our enquiries.

“We would like to again thank everyone who has shared our appeals, contacted us with information so far and supported our efforts to find Caroline.

“This support from the local community has been truly invaluable, and we continue to appeal for anyone who may have seen Caroline, or who recalls anything unusual during those early morning hours, to come please forward.

“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help us to find her.

Lowlands search and rescue and the National Police Air Service have joined boots on the ground to find missing Ms Heininger.

Specialists were reportedly shining torches into the gardens of Frethern Close for signs of the 66-year-old.

Lowlands rescue said it was called late last Wednesday to search for a “high risk missing person” and sent out the full team.

People in the community have also been joining in searches of the Burford area to track her down.

On Saturday, August 8, a group of volunteers reportedly met up in the car park at the bottom of Burford Hill to join efforts.

In addition, a ‘Help find Caroline’ Facebook group has been set up to support the search.
