Corporal Louis Blanshard, based at RAF Brize Norton, is running 255km throughout the month to support Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) as part of its Longest Day fundraising campaign.

The distance represents the 255 British lives lost in the Falklands War, in whose memory the run is being completed.

Cpl Blanshard, from the No. 7 RAF Police and Security Squadron, said: “I have chosen to raise money for Walking With The Wounded because I believe the work they do is incredibly important and makes a real difference.

“They have had a positive impact on so many ex-service personnel, helping them adjust to civilian life.

“The aim of this challenge is to push myself further than I ever have before, while also remembering the British lives lost during the Falklands War.

“Having been deployed there and seen the conditions they faced, I believe their sacrifice should never be forgotten.”

He is running 8.5km every day throughout June to meet his 255km goal.

Funds raised will support WWTW’s employment, mental health and wraparound care coordination programmes.

Martin Lynn, events manager at WWTW, said: “Louis’ Longest Day fundraiser is a fantastic challenge that not only raises vital funds for the charity but also serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made during the Falklands War.”
