Barberry Fish Bar, in Bicester, was given a one star rating by Cherwell District Council environmental health officers following a routine visit.

The eatery was previously given a high food hygiene rating in 2024, and has long been considered on of Bicester’s most popular fish and chip takeaway shops.

But on a reinspection, the chippy is now back to five-stars for hygiene.

A spokesman for Barberry Fish Bar said: “We have some absolutely fantastic news to share with you all! Following a recent revisit from the Food Standards Agency, we are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded the maximum five-star food hygiene rating.

“As many of you know, our previous inspection left us with a disappointing rating due to paperwork issues.

“We’ve worked hard behind the scenes to make our paperwork as immaculate as our frying ranges and the inspectors agreed!

“A massive thank you to our incredible team who work tirelessly every day, and to you, our amazing community, for standing by us and keeping your trust in our fish and chips.

“We love serving you the best, cleanest, and tastiest food possible. Come down this weekend and celebrate with us—the oil is hot, the fish is fresh, and the paperwork is officially perfect.”
