BBC presenter Prof Alice Roberts to present show in Oxford

From Cell to Civilisation is coming to the New Theatre on Sunday, November 29, exploring the full sweep of human evolution through archaeology, genetics, and evolutionary biology.

Prof Roberts said: “I’m thrilled to be bringing a new stage show to the UK in November exploring the story of us, from Cell to Civilisation.

“Blending archaeology, evolutionary biology and genetics and using theatrical sound, light and imagination to bring the science to life in a way that you’ve never seen before.

“We’ll be tracing our origins back, not just to the dawn of our own species, but to the origin of life on this planet.”

The live show, produced by Lateral Events, will trace the journey of life from its beginnings 3.8 billion years ago through the emergence of early civilisations and the spread of modern humans across the globe.

“That’s four billion years of evolution in one evening,” Prof Roberts added.

“I’m really excited about this, I’ve taken this show to Australia, to Canada, and now it’s coming to the UK in November.

“I can’t wait to share this story with you.”

Prof Roberts, a broadcaster, author, and Professor of Public Engagement with Science at the University of Birmingham, is best known for presenting more than 100 television programmes, including the BBC series Digging for Britain.
