Banbury station renovations unveiled after months of works

Upgrades to the ‘vital’ town train station were revealed today, Thursday, July 30, as part of a major joint project between Chiltern Railways and Oxfordshire County Council.

The ticket office and main entrance have been overhauled, and ‘extensive’ painting and cleaning, ceiling replacement and new seating installation has been carried out.

The works took place over several months and also included a deep clean, new anti-slip surface treatments, internal painting and other renovations.

Representatives from Chiltern Railways, Oxfordshire County Council, Banbury Town Council, Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire Community Rail Partnership attended the station today to celebrate the revamp.

Michael Stewart, Commercial and Customer Strategy Director at Chiltern Railways, said: “Banbury is a key hub on our network and we are delighted that the station has been significantly upgraded.

“Ensuring our stations are well-kept, maintained and enhanced is crucial for the travel experience which we are always striving to improve for our customers.”

Councillor Gareth Epps, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, said: “I am proud to celebrate the upgrades made to Banbury’s vital railway station.

“Commuters can also enjoy safer and more sustainable travel options to and from the station with our Tramway Road improvements.”

Banbury Station has also undergone a series of other significant improvements in recent years, including a community project celebrating people from the town on the overbridge and the opening of a new Costa Coffee.
