Awards to honour Oxfordshire residents aged over 60

The scheme aims to honour residents who are making a positive difference in their communities through volunteering, fundraising, mentoring, or other support.

Now in its second year, the awards, led by Churchill Living and supported by the Churchill Foundation, shine a light on the experience, kindness and commitment of older people whose efforts often go unrecognised.

Spencer McCarthy, chairman and chief executive of Churchill Living, said: “After the incredible response to last year’s awards, we’re delighted to be bringing back the Local Hero Awards for a second year.

“We meet so many remarkable people through our work, whose generosity and community spirit make a genuine difference to those around them.

“These awards are about recognising those individuals who go above and beyond, often without expecting anything in return.

“Whether it’s through volunteering, supporting neighbours, or simply being a constant source of kindness, their impact is truly inspiring.

“We’re proud to celebrate these local heroes and to help shine a light on the important role older people play in communities across the country.”

Last year’s awards celebrated inspiring individuals from across the country, with the Churchill Foundation donating a total of £10,000 to a wide range of good causes chosen by the winners.

This year, selected nominees will be invited to an awards ceremony at a nearby Churchill Living development, and each overall winner will receive up to £1,000 to donate to a charity of their choice.

Churchill Living said: “Across the UK, people over 60 continue to play a vital role in strengthening communities, from volunteering and fundraising to mentoring and supporting those around them.

“Their experience, compassion and commitment are at the heart of so many local initiatives, yet their contributions are often under the radar.

“The Local Hero Awards aim to recognise and celebrate these everyday acts of kindness and leadership.”

Nominations are open to anyone aged over 60 in Oxfordshire, and individuals can put themselves forward or be nominated by friends, family or neighbours who have benefited from their support.

Nominees must have made a positive impact in their community, regardless of the scale of their actions.

The deadline for nominations is Saturday, June 20.

Churchill Living develops and manages purpose-built apartments for older people across more than 200 sites nationally.

Only people of 60 years or over, or those over this age with a partner of at least 55, can live in them.
