Aldi survey reveals knowledge gap on seasonal UK produce
The research, commissioned by Aldi and involving 2,000 adults, found that 49 per cent of people in the south east do not realise that courgettes, cucumbers, and aubergines can be grown in Britain.
Aldi has teamed up with farmer and TV personality Harriet Cowan to promote the value of supporting homegrown produce through a series of seasonal recipes.
Harriet Cowan said: “I’m passionate about highlighting the brilliant work British farmers do to bring high-quality food to our tables.
“I’ve loved teaming up with Aldi to learn more about the fruit and veg we grow here in the UK and help shine a light on what’s in season.
“There’s so much great produce grown right on our doorstep, and choosing British-grown ingredients is a really simple way to support farmers while bringing more variety into everyday meals.”
Dishes include creamy pea and pesto pasta skillet, pork tenderloin with rhubarb sauce, beef and pepper stir fry, and hot honey carrots.
The study also revealed that 74 per cent of adults in the South East value supporting British or local farmers, but only 26 per cent consider whether fruit and vegetables are UK-grown when shopping.
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “British produce is a huge part of what we offer at Aldi, and we’re proud to work with suppliers across the UK to bring customers high-quality fruit and veg throughout the seasons.”
