Aaron Ramsey disappointed with Oxford United draw against Cambridge

The Yellows drew their third home of the season as they remain unbeaten at the Kassam Stadium but were frustrated as they were held to only a point in League One.

Siriki Dembele opened the scoring 15 minutes in with his second goal in two games, before Ben Knight levelled the score in the second half.

The U’s go into the international break four points from the top as they sit in sixth place.

“We are disappointed,” the Oxford boss said after the game.

“We want to win our home games, of course, but there are no easy games in this league as well.

“They came and made it difficult for us at times.

“But the thing is is that we tried to keep going, kept going until the end, and trying to find a way to win a game and just came a little bit short in the end.

“But for us now looking over the block of the beginning of the season, it’s been a decent start for us.

“There are things that we can improve on, of course, which we’ll take this time now in the international break to do that.

“We’ll assess that and we’ll be better then for when the games come thick and fast after that.

“In that first half, we were gaining a lot of momentum, driving towards our own fans and things.

“Second half then, I think they tweaked a few bits.

“We created one or two chances maybe where the keeper’s pulled off a few really good saves but ultimately, we drew the game.”

Oxford faced another tough team who got numbers back when defending and whipped in plenty of crosses, 32 in total, to try and find a route to goal.

The visitors tried to disrupt United in front of the Yellows fans, giving away 14 fouls to Oxford’s 11, Cambridge picking up five yellow cards in the process.

“We’re more than capable of competing and showing that side of our game in terms of the out-of-possession stuff, standing up to that and doing all of that side,” former Arsenal midfielder Ramsey continued.

“There are obviously things that we can improve on, and we’ll definitely do that.

“We’re not the finished article and we know that.

“We’re realistic as well.

“We’re giving everything we can to win games.

“The frustrating part today was that we didn’t quite get over the line.

” [But] we’re on the right path, that’s for sure.”

The U’s are back in action on October 6 with a trip to Exeter City in the EFL Trophy.
