A417 Oxfordshire: Recently repaired road to have roadworks

In a statement, Wantage councillors, Jane Hanna OBE and Jenny Hannaby, a part of Reading Road at East Hendred will be closed on Tuesday, June 9, to cover a recently repaired section of the road.

The road will be closed from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm with temporary traffic lights in place.

Bob Cat works are planned to improve a section of the road that has had temporary repairs.

The councillors confirmed that from Thursday, June 4 to Monday June 8 temporary traffic lights will be in place.

On Tuesday, June 9 the councillors said a specialist contractor will install new signals for safety crossing and test.

Drivers can also expect work to return on the Thursday, June 11 and Friday, June 12.

In a statement on Facebook the councillors said of the repairs: “This has happened since Jane had site visit there and pressed for improvement, more needed, more to come as a result of work that Cllr Hannaby and Cllr Hannaby have persistently escalated with the support of resident reports on fix my street and volunteer superusers”.

he works, which began on March 16, were to install a new traffic light pedestrian crossing on the A417 Reading Road.

Four-way traffic lights were installed for 10 weeks, and have since operated everyday from 7am until 8pm.

Originally planned to complete on Friday, May 22, the works have caused controversy on the busy road.
