Oxford United boss hails ‘powerful’ Millwall in promotion race
Despite having relegation confirmed and therefore nothing riding on The U’s final Championship fixture of the season, Oxford are aiming to finish the campaign on high whilst up against a Lions team who are hoping to secure automatic promotion on the final day.
Millwall are one point behind second-placed Ipswich Town and will need to beat The Yellows as well as hope their rivals drop points if they are to secure promotion straight to the Premier League.
Oxford defeated Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 in their final home game of the season last weekend thanks to two goals from Tottenham Hotspur loanee Will Lankshear and individual strikes from Will Vaulks and Myles Peart-Harris.
“We wanted to finish strongly,” Bloomfield declared.
“We have to focus on the weekend because we want to put in another performance. I’ve spoken about it before.
“We wanted to finish the season strongly irrespective of the results on Saturday lunchtime.

“We’re up against a really powerful team who have had an unbelievable season.
“Alex Neil has done a fantastic job at Millwall and they’re a fantastic team…[we are] in for a really tough game. But from my side, we have to prepare to be the best we can possibly be.
“We know there’s a situation at the top of the league where everyone’s going to be fighting for points and promotion and our professional integrity says we have to make sure that we’re ready for what we need to be.
“The main thing I’m looking for is character and attitude.

“For us to move forward as a group and as a football club, we have to take the best characters and the best attitudes with us.
“If you’re successful at anything in life, it’s because you’re surrounding yourself with hard work and alignment. And it doesn’t matter what industry you’re involved in, whether it’s football or whether you’re involved in anything else, it’s about alignment and hard work towards a goal.

“So for Saturday, I’m looking for attitude, I’m looking for character, I’m looking for all of those things to go into a performance.”
With Saturday’s result ultimately meaningless for The U’s, there is a possibility that some rotation could be seen at The Den.
Bloomfield, however, remained tight-lipped on the chance of changes in East London.
“I want to be the best we can be on Saturday. That has to be my focus and I will pick the team that I believe is best to play in the way that we need to play on Saturday.”

Oxford United’s Emakhu finding form after Millwall transfer
“When I first came in, I wasn’t myself,” the winger admitted in his press conference before facing his former club on the final day of the season.
“I didn’t feel myself. Obviously, had a bit of a setback with illness and I was carrying a knock and stuff like that but the last couple of games I’ve felt like I’m getting back to my levels.”
Oxford suffered relegation to League One prior to their 4-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend, leaving them with a free hit against Emakhu’s former club Millwall this Saturday.
After struggling to cement a starting place for The U’s since joining on deadline day in the winter transfer window, the former Lion has started to show real threat off the bench recently and was gifted a start in against The Owls last time out.

Head coach Matt Bloomfield stated previously that he has been waiting for the Emakhu that the club signed to show himself, and that person is beginning to be discovered.
“I was kind of waiting for him myself to be honest as well,” the Irishman said, referring to himself in the third person.
“When are you going to start playing like you know you can.
“He’s trusted me. He’s had numerous conversations, honest conversations.

“The last couple of games I like to think that I’m showing what I can bring to the team.
“I think in my career so far I’ve had to face quite a lot of challenges but I’m someone that’s really big in my faith in God so I think that keeps me going, that’s what drives me every day that gives me peace in the chaos when it seems like things are falling apart.
“I’ve got to control what I can and that’s by doing the extra bit on the pitches every day days off coming in and working hard.
“Because if I’m not ready then it’s only on me I’ve got no one else to blame, I can’t point fingers.

“I had to make sure that when I was out of the picture for a bit that I was controlling what I could in the background.”
Suffering the first relegation of his senior career, the prospect of going down does not seem to shake Emakhu’s motivation.

“I’m not going to be naive, I knew coming here there was a risk that we’d possibly go down but I liked the project when it was presented to me, I liked what I’d seen and what I’d heard so it interested me at the time, it still does.
“It’s an ambitious club. I’ve got no doubt that we’re going to bounce back. None of us are really worried.”

In the final Championship match day of the season, Emakhu travels with The U’s to face his former club at The Den with the prospect of netting his first Yellows goal not completely out of his mind.
“I’ve played a lot of games for Millwall and I’ve seen what it’s like for opposition players so it’s not a nice place to go.
“I said I’d be a Millwall fan for life so…maybe not on Saturday but after that I’ll be rooting for them.
“It’ll be kind of bittersweet whether it’s my first goal for Oxford or it could potentially damage hopes of promotion for Millwall, but I think I’ll just be approaching the game like any other game.”

Can Spurs recall Will Lankshear from Oxford United early?
Spurs are currently fighting for their lives in the Premier League and have a large injury list including forward players such as Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Dominic Solanke.
Currently in the relegation zone with the threat of Championship football next season a real possibility, fans of the London club have called for the early return of some of their players who are currently out on loan.

One of these names is The U’s Will Lankshear who was named Men’s Young Player of the Year and Men’s Golden Boot winner at Oxford’s awards evening on Sunday.
With 12 goals in all competitions for a struggling Yellows outfit, some Spurs have called for Lankshear to be recalled from OX4 now that their fate this campaign is decided – Matt Bloomfield’s men were relegated to League One last weekend.

The Premier League confirmed to football.london that players cannot return and play for their parent clubs before the season ends.

Football.london stated: “Premier League loan players are essentially de-registered from the parent club and re-registered elsewhere and that cannot change back until the next registration period opens, which in this case would be the summer transfer window.
“The guidance is that other than the early recall of a goalkeeper in exceptional circumstances, no other player on a long-term loan – full or half season – will be permitted to return to their parent club outside of a transfer window and play first team football.
“So if a loan recall happens outside a window, the player may train but not be eligible for matches until the next registration period unless special exceptions exist.”

Millwall suffer injury doubts before Oxford United bout
Alex Neil’s side are hoping to secure a top-two finish on the final day of the season, with The Lions needing to win and hope that Ipswich Town, who are one point ahead with a superior goal difference, drop points at home to Queens Park Rangers.
Oxford, on the other hand, have nothing to play after relegation was confirmed before their last home game of the season against Sheffield Wednesday last time out.
The U’s put on a show at the Kassam and ran out 4-1 winners thanks to two goals from Tottenham Hotspur loanee Will Lankshear and strikes from Will Vaulks and Myles Peart-Harris.

Millwall struggled to a 1-1 draw with already-relegated Leicester City most recently, a 91st-minute equaliser from Macauley Langstaff rescuing a point away from home.
Striker Josh Coburn was forced off early against The Foxes whilst centre back Caleb Taylor has been missing since picking up a foot injury in his side’s win over Stoke City the game prior.
According to the Southwark News, Coburn’s availability against Oxford remains unclear.
“He’s doing okay,” Lions boss Neil told NewsAtDen.

“He landed awkwardly, so I don’t think that the gash is the biggest issue. We’ll see how he develops this week, and then we’ll make decisions.”
Taylor has been in a walking boot, which is precautionary according to the Southwark News, and a decision on him will also be made closer to Saturday.

“We’re going to have a few players back for this weekend.
“What the game time or involvement will look like is unclear at the moment, but I expect to have a couple of lads back in the squad.”
Midfielder Billy Mitchell and full back Alfie Doughty have both been out since March and April.
