Cequence backs behaviour-based zero trust for AI agents

Cequence Security said Anthropic, Dr. Chase Cunningham and Cequence have aligned on a behaviour-based approach to securing AI agents. It described this convergence as a shift in how the industry defines zero trust for agentic AI.

The shared view centres on a simple point: the main risk from AI agents lies not in whether they can log in, but in what they do after access is granted. The work of Anthropic, Cunningham’s research and Cequence’s AI Gateway architecture all point to controls that monitor and restrict runtime behaviour rather than relying mainly on authentication.

That marks a departure from traditional cybersecurity practice, which has focused on verifying identity at the point of entry. With autonomous software agents, the concern is that an authorised system may still carry out harmful actions, misuse APIs or remove sensitive data through approved channels.

The issue is drawing more attention as businesses move AI agents from trial environments into live operations. These systems are being used with access to internal tools, sensitive datasets and production systems, raising the stakes if an agent behaves unexpectedly or is manipulated by malicious prompts.

Cequence said this environment requires zero trust principles to be applied continuously throughout an agent’s activity. In practice, that means checking the context of each action, limiting the resources available to the agent and enforcing policy at the level of individual transactions.

Shreyans Mehta, Chief Technology Officer at Cequence Security, set out that argument directly.

“Most security teams are still trying to tackle AI risk with prompt detection and short-lived tokens – basically, really tight sign-in security. But that misses the point entirely. You can nail authentication and still get burned by an agent running amok inside the castle,” said Shreyans Mehta, Chief Technology Officer at Cequence Security.

Mehta also pointed to what he sees as broader agreement across the sector.

“Anthropic, Dr. Cunningham and Cequence all recognised early on that the gamechanger is securing agent behaviour. Seeing the whole industry pivot hard toward that truth, toward the approach we baked into the AI Gateway from day one, is the ultimate validation. It crowns the AI Gateway as the new reference architecture for the space,” he said.

Security model

Cunningham, who has published research on what he calls Agentic Zero Trust, framed the problem in similar terms. In his view, established controls focus too heavily on the “front gate” and do not address what happens once an AI system is inside a network or application environment.

“Traditional security controls focus obsessively on the front gate – who gets in. But with AI agents, the real damage happens after the front gate, through totally authorised channels,” said Dr. Chase Cunningham, a leading expert on Zero Trust security.

“You have to extend zero trust inside, to cover not just authentication, but every action an agent takes. Cequence’s AI Gateway is a huge leap toward that goal, toward getting zero trust to fully cover the AI agent threat model,” Cunningham said.

The broader technical argument is that AI agents can combine a series of individually permissible steps into harmful or unintended outcomes. Because those patterns may only become visible as they unfold, static rules or one-off login checks may not be enough to stop them.

That is why the behaviour-based model emphasises real-time monitoring and intervention. Instead of treating access approval as the main control, the system applies checks throughout the session, looking at which tools are being called, what data is being requested and whether the sequence of actions fits policy.

CIS guidance

Cequence also linked this thinking to the Model Context Protocol Companion Guide from the Centre for Internet Security. The guide adapts the CIS Controls to address risks that arise when AI agents interact with enterprise tools, systems and information, and identifies the protocol layer as an important point for governance.

According to Cequence, the guide calls for explicit tool-level permissions, audit trails for interactions and real-time protection for sensitive data. It said those ideas align with the design of its AI Gateway, which creates least-privilege agent profiles, records API activity and inspects requests and responses for sensitive information.

Mehta drew a direct link between the policy framework and implementation.

“The CIS MCP Companion Guide defines what enterprises should do; the Cequence AI Gateway operationalises it,” he said.

“The guide calls for explicit tool-level permissions, auditable interactions, and real-time sensitive data protection. AI Gateway delivers by generating least-privilege agent personas, logging every API call, and applying DLP scanning to tool requests and responses. It takes the CIS framework from theory to practice,” Mehta said.

The debate comes as security teams face a faster threat environment shaped by AI on both sides. Cequence argued that attack timelines are shrinking sharply, making immediate visibility into API calls and data flows more important as organisations deploy agents into business processes.

Cequence said its platform protects more than 10 billion daily API interactions and 4 billion user accounts.

Woojer has launched a site-wide 15% discount on its haptic gaming and wellness products across several international markets.

The promotion covers the Woojer Vest 4, Woojer STRAP 4 and Woojer MAT, aimed at users of games, films, music and relaxation products. It applies across the full range rather than a single device category.

At the lower end of the price range, the STRAP 4 costs USD $143 and GBP £137 after the discount, down from USD $169 and GBP £162. The wearable device converts audio into physical vibration and can be worn around the hips, across the chest or in a cross-body position.

Woojer has also added a styling element, offering a range of colours, patterns and themed editions linked to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Fortnite. A dedicated app for the Series 4 range lets users manage appearance settings, core functions, audio controls and firmware updates.

Higher-priced products

The Vest 4 sits in the middle of the range at USD $407 and GBP £390 after the discount, compared with USD $479 and GBP £459 previously. It uses six Osci TRX2 transducers to deliver haptic feedback across the torso while users play games, watch films, listen to music or use virtual reality applications.

According to the product details, the vest includes an integrated control panel, digital signal processing, multi-band equaliser settings, Bluetooth headset compatibility and up to eight hours of battery life. It is designed for use while seated, standing or moving.

The most expensive item in the promotion is the Woojer MAT, now priced at USD $849 and GBP £813, down from USD $999 and GBP £957. The foldable mattress topper is positioned as a home wellness product that turns sound into vibrations across the body.

Wellness push

Woojer links the MAT to vibroacoustic therapy, which combines sound and vibration in relaxation and recovery settings. The product is intended to support sleep, stress reduction, recovery, mindfulness and relief from muscular tension.

That places the MAT in a broader wellness market where consumer technology companies are trying to move beyond entertainment hardware into products associated with rest, recovery and mental wellbeing. By including the MAT in the same summer offer as its gaming wearables, Woojer presents entertainment and wellness as part of a single commercial strategy.

The promotion also highlights the company’s pricing structure. Even after the discount, the MAT remains a premium purchase at close to USD $850, while the Vest 4 still costs more than many mainstream audio accessories, suggesting Woojer is targeting consumers willing to pay more for a specialised sensory product.

At the same time, the STRAP 4 gives the company a lower entry point for buyers interested in haptic audio without spending several hundred pounds or dollars on a vest or mattress topper. That may help broaden its reach among gamers, music listeners and virtual reality users who want a wearable format rather than a larger home setup.

Beyond direct sales, Woojer also offers an affiliate programme that pays 10% commission on generated sales. This suggests the company is using partner-led marketing to widen distribution and attract attention in a crowded consumer electronics market.

Haptic technology has drawn increasing interest from gaming and immersive media companies seeking to add touch-based feedback to sound and visuals. Woojer’s product range reflects that trend, focusing on devices that translate audio signals into vibrations users can feel through a strap, vest or mattress topper.

The sale gives prospective buyers a temporary price cut across all three product categories, with discounted prices ranging from USD $143 for the STRAP 4 to USD $849 for the MAT.

Thames Valley drivers face highest fuel prices in the UK

The soaring prices come after the start of the Iran war in the end of February, with diesel now at 205.9p per litre at Membury services in Berkshire, and unleaded petrol reaching 185p per litre.

Some drivers are reducing their journeys due to the unaffordable fuel prices.

The Government has frozen fuel duty in an effort to alleviate the burden, while motoring groups advise shopping around for the best deals.

Simon Williams, head of policy at the RAC, commented on the situation: “Fuel prices continued to rise over the weekend with petrol climbing to a new Iran War high of 160.85p and diesel going back over 180p, something drivers haven’t seen since 9 June.

“Unleaded has now risen more than 10p a litre – 7 per cent – since bottoming out at 150.59p on 6 July while diesel is up 16p (15.8p) a litre, or 10 per cent, almost fully reversing June’s 16.6p reduction, which was the biggest monthly drop on record.

“Positively for petrol car drivers, RAC analysis of wholesale fuel data shows prices at the pump should begin to stabilise this week.

“But the news for those who rely on diesel, including many businesses, is worrying as it looks set to carry on rising, possibly reaching 185p in the next week or so.”

The rise in fuel prices coincides with the summer holiday season, when more than 20 million UK drivers are expected to hit the roads this week.

The AA is advising motorists to use price comparison apps powered by the Government’s Fuel Finder service to “beat the higher prices.”

The increase in prices has led to record numbers of forecourt drive-offs.

Forecourt Eye, a fuel theft prevention company, reported a 20 per cent increase in incidents of fuel taken without payment in the five months following the conflict’s onset on February 28, compared to the previous five months.

The surge in pump prices due to the war has driven the value of stolen fuel up by 48 per cent over the same period, reaching an estimated daily average of £194,000 across the UK’s 8,359 forecourts.

Gordon Balmer, executive director of the Petrol Retailers Association, noted that its members are “reporting increasing levels of abuse and aggression towards colleagues who are simply doing their jobs and have no influence over the price displayed on the forecourt”.

The Government has postponed its planned September 2026 increase to fuel duty until the end of the year due to rising pump prices.

Originally introduced by the Conservatives in 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the 5p reduction was set to end in September 2026.

Scran launches cooking app for neurodivergent users

Scran has launched an iOS and Android cooking app for neurodivergent users. Developed in Edinburgh by founders with backgrounds in technology and accessibility, it aims to change how recipes are presented to reduce the mental effort involved in cooking.

Users can import recipes from websites, social media, photos and cookbooks. The app then restructures them into shorter, more explicit steps.

Its launch comes amid growing attention on digital products designed around accessibility needs rather than adapted later. The founders said common recipe formats can be hard to follow because preparation is often buried in later instructions, ingredient quantities are separated from method steps, and longer directions require repeated rereading.

Scran moves preparation tasks to the start of a recipe, places ingredient amounts within each step and breaks longer directions into smaller actions that users can tick off as they cook. It also includes serving-size adjustments, aisle-sorted shopping lists, measurement conversion, larger text, dark mode and dyslexia-friendly fonts.

Scran was created by Grant Macgregor and Jonny Kirkaldy, an Edinburgh-based couple who said they have spent 15 years designing digital products, including accessibility work for neurodivergent users. The app was built with input from home cooks, including people with ADHD, dyslexia and autism.

During a four-month pilot, 200 people tested the product and their feedback shaped how recipes are imported, simplified and followed. Scran said the app recorded a 30% week-four retention rate during the trial, while a voluntary follow-up survey found that 32 of 36 respondents said it made cooking from recipes easier. Of those, 19 said it was much easier and 13 said it was somewhat easier.

Inclusive Design

The founders say the central issue is cognitive load. Rather than offering a standard recipe database, the app focuses on changing the structure of recipe instructions so each task is clearer and easier to complete in sequence.

“Standard recipe formats assume everyone processes information the same way. We’ve heard from so many people who blame themselves when a recipe trips them up, when really it’s the recipe that’s failing them. We want to give people the confidence to cook whatever they want to,” said Jonny Kirkaldy, co-founder of Scran.

Scran uses artificial intelligence to import and simplify recipes, but the wider proposition rests on design rules created through research with neurodivergent cooks. The founders said the system is intended to create more consistent step-by-step instructions across different recipe sources.

The app enters a crowded market for meal planning and recipe tools, but it targets a narrower user group with a specific accessibility problem. That may help explain the pilot’s retention figures, which Scran cites as evidence of demand for a simpler way to follow recipes.

Consumer apps aimed at accessibility needs have often focused on reading, communication or mobility. Cooking has received less attention, even though recipe formats combine several common pain points at once, including dense text, task switching, sequencing and working memory demands.

One tester described the effect of restructuring steps into single actions.

“This app is life-changing. Having the steps broken down into single actions makes my life so much easier and less overwhelming. I want to enjoy cooking and the app does the hard bit for me!” said Sofia.

Commercial Model

Scran is self-funded and is launching with a subscription model after a free trial period. The service is priced at £29.99 a year or £4.99 a month, putting it in line with many paid productivity and lifestyle apps rather than free recipe platforms supported by advertising.

That pricing suggests the founders are betting users will pay for a tool that solves a practical problem rather than for access to recipes alone. The pilot’s retention and survey data will be watched as an early indicator of whether accessibility-led consumer software can sustain paid subscriptions in a competitive app market.

Macgregor said the project was built around a specific use case rather than broad claims about technology.

“For us, technology is at its best when it solves a specific, real-world accessibility issue. By combining inclusive design, a supportive app experience and ongoing community feedback, we’ve built something that can help more people stay on track, feel confident and enjoy cooking more,” said Grant Macgregor.
