Detective sergeant Lisa Jones, part of Oxford criminal investigations department, said a “thorough investigation” is being carried out and a “number of enquiries” had been made to work out what happened.
She added: “I am appealing to anyone that may have witnessed anything or has information that may help to please get in touch.”
On Thursday morning, a police spokesman said that no arrests have been made and nor have any charged been brought.
During the A40 closure, Oxfordshire County Council suspended the congestion charge for drivers who used Marston Ferry Road the following morning, March 6.
It meant that a fine was not applied to anyone who drove through the Marston Ferry Road charge point that morning and those who paid in advance will be refunded.
